Department of Health, Disability and Ageing

The Interim Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC) has been established by the Australian Department of Health, Disability and Ageing to protect Australia from public health threats and improve the health of all Australians.

The National Occupational Respiratory Disease Registry (National Registry) is a key element in the CDC’s response to occupational diseases. The National Registry captures and shares data on workplace exposures and cases of occupational respiratory disease across Australia. It aims to support the reduction and elimination of preventable occupational respiratory diseases by mapping occupational respiratory disease prevalence, identifying exposure risks, and detecting emerging threats to workers’ health.

The CDC also supported the development of the Silica National Strategic Plan to provide a consistent national approach to the prevention of silica related disease. In addition, the CDC currently funds work to deliver education and training activities and to support people affected by occupational respiratory disease and their families.
