Earning CPD points at the ASM

All educational sessions at the ASM attract CPD points.

For medical practitioners, all sessions at the ASM are eligible for Category 1 CPD points, based on one point for each hour of education. This includes plenaries, workshops, journal club, CPR and the worksite visits.

How do I report my CPD points?

A certificate of participation will be issued by the conference organiser. This may be used for self-reporting to your relevant CPD Home (in the case of medical practitioners) or other professional body. The certificate will not validate your specific hours of participation.

For Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, reporting is further facilitated through QR codes which will be shown on screen at each presentation. This is made possible through ANZSOM’s Model of Collaboration with the College. There is a unique QR code for each session, including the worksite visits. The codes for the worksite visits will be shown at lunchtime on each afternoon of the conference so be sure to scan before you leave on the visit.

Cultural Safety activity – Journal Club

Starting in 2025, RACP Fellows must complete and record at least two activities focused on cultural safety. At this year’s ANZSOM ASM, Dr Thea Leman will lead a Journal Club discussion exploring this important topic, using a relevant journal article as the basis for conversation. You can access the article here. Attendance at this session will be tracked via QR codes, in line with all other sessions, and will be recorded as a cultural safety activity.

Ethics and professional behaviour workshop

In addition, RACP Fellows must complete and record at least two activities on ethics and professional behaviour. At the ASM, Dr Anthony Brown and Dr David Goddard will present a dedicated workshop on Ethics and Behaviour in Occupational Medicine. The session will use case studies and small group discussions to explore key principles and foster critical thinking. Attendance at this session will be tracked via QR codes, in line with all other sessions, and will be recorded as an ethics and professional behaviour activity.

Have your Annual Conversation at the conference – earn Category 2 points

An Annual Conversation is a structured discussion with a peer, colleague, or employer. It is an opportunity to reflect on your development needs and intentions for the year, receive constructive feedback, and explore job satisfaction, self-care and any health and wellbeing issues so you can adjust your practice accordingly.

A good time to have the conversation is towards the end of your current CPD year, so you can prepare your next PDP and decide on your activities for the coming year. This way you can use the information you have obtained undertaking activities across the three types of CPD to inform the conversation. The Annual Scientific Meeting in October is an excellent opportunity!

To assist, the RACP has developed a template, which is accessible on the RACP website (note: if you are not an RACP Member, you can register for guest access).
