Infection Control Letter to the Community

To The Australian Cystic Fibrosis Conference Delegates

There is a great deal of excitement swirling around the upcoming Australasian Cystic Fibrosis Conference (ACFC). As with all of our events, the health and wellbeing of all delegates is a priority for us at the conference. This is especially important regarding COVID-19 and for the risk of cross-infection for people living with cystic fibrosis.

While attendance at the conference is at your own risk, we continue to ensure we maintain appropriate safety measures to maintain a COVID-Safe environment and limit the risk of cross-infection. We recommend you review the Queensland Government portal regarding COVID-19.

We have intentionally chosen our conference venue to ensure sufficient space and the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre is a sizable venue with wide thoroughfares which will allow for a responsible distance to be adhered.

CFA will be providing sanitising hand gel, gloves, and masks at the conference for people who would like to use them as an added precaution.

To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs we ask that you:

·        Clean your hands frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based hand gel

·        Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow

·        Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth

·        Maintain a distance of at least four metres from others with CF or those with a respiratory infection

CFA asks that all people with CF discuss their attendance at the conference with their clinician to decide what is best for their wellbeing. We all must be vigilant so if anyone has cold or flu symptoms or feels unwell please stay at home. We cannot put anyone at risk. We need to be vigilant and care for others, as has been demonstrated at previous ACF conferences.

CFA aims to have the highest level of infection control and health safety. The ACFC is an important event for the CF Lay and Medical community, but the health of our community is most important.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to safeguard the health of those who attend the ACFC. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
