• The key results or analysis became available only after the standard abstract deadline.  Results are new data that emerged too late for standard submission. (Standard abstract submission deadline was 22 March 2026.)
• Impactful clinical trial results that represent significant therapeutic advances or breakthrough basic science results on the level of a Science or Nature paper.  The work is scientifically or clinically important, novel, and highly influential or altering care. 
• The abstract must include final data or substantive results, not “results to follow” or a study in progress.
• The submission needs a brief justification explaining why it qualifies as late breaking.
• The abstract cannot have been previously published or presented elsewhere in final form.

• Those abstracts that do not meet eligibility criteria will not be reviewed or considered.  Limited spots available.
• The abstract submission format is the same as the standard abstracts.

What reviewers are looking for

• Clear evidence of a major new finding, such as a practice-changing clinical trial result or an important basic science discovery.
• Strong scientific rigor, including appropriate analysis and complete data where required.
• Broader significance than routine follow-up, small updates, or minimally changed analyses.
• Limited overlap with the conference’s regular abstract program, since late-breaking slots are very restricted.
• Compliance with conference-specific rules on embargoes, authorship, and formatting.
• A good test is: “Did the main finding arrive after the deadline, and is it strong enough to matter immediately?
