Thermoplastic butterfly valve with metal benefits

The most common butterfly valves used in various service conditions are valves made of metal. However, there are unique possibilities and physical properties of plastic that offer advantages compared to metal. Innovations in Butterfly valves offer a new, rubber-lined plastic valve with all the benefits from plastic (corrosions resistant, light) and no limitations regarding installation length and pressure/temperature performance.

The main customer benefits from the innovative plastic solution are:

- What is less impactful on the environment – metal or plastic? Executed by a third party, a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for a plastic Butterfly Valve was done. In addition, a comparative LCA study was conducted with a comparable metal valve. The result: The impact on climate change of the plastic valve is over 25 % lower than that of the metal valve. Furthermore, the plastic valve is the first industrial butterfly valve with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

- A longer lifetime due to a higher corrosion resistance. Exposed to critical environments, plastic offers a higher corrosive resistance. This makes plastic valves particularly reliable and low-maintenance. The maintenance-free operation of the connections is particularly advantageous when applications are difficult to reach.

- The plastic design is 60 % lighter compared to the metal valves. The low weight of the plastic material reduces the energy and resources needed for transport and installation. After installation, the advantages of the reduced static weight can become even more significant. Therefore, the butterfly valve is much more sustainable.

The key to achieve this product performance is the patented hybrid disc design and the selection of superior materials. The inner material of the disc is out of a 60 % fiber-reinforced polyamide. This inner disc is with a high technology PVDF encased which ensure the usage of the valve in different mediums and applications. This makes the valve suitable for harsh environments and various industries.
