Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) is an activity of Micah Projects, and is committed to supporting Brisbane women and children, to ensure they feel safe and free from fear of domestic and family violence.
BDVS is a first port of call for women and children experiencing or at risk of experiencing domestic and family violence. BDVS provides information, options and referral, crisis support, practical assistance, advocacy, counselling and emotional support. We work to provide a safe environment in which people can access our services to meet their needs - over the phone, on-line, or via in-person visits in the home or at a nominated safe place.
DVConnect supports people in Queensland to live free from domestic, family and sexual violence through the Womensline, Mensline and Sexual Assault Helplines. DVConnect also provides, VictimConnect, a program supporting people who have experienced a violent crime in Queensland.
In partnership with the RSPCA Queensland, DVConnect provides safe accommodation for pets accompanying individuals escaping domestic, family and sexual violence. DVConnect also operates Bella’s Sanctuary, a medium-term transitional accommodation residence for women and children after leaving shelter.
Immigrant Women’s Support Service (IWSS) is a specialist domestic violence and sexual assault service that provides direct support to women and their children from non-English speaking backgrounds who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence. Our services are free of charge, confidential and culturally sensitive. IWSS provides crisis support, counselling, on-going case management, advocacy, community education, therapeutic groups as well as specialist knowledge support for service providers.
Multicultural Australia is Queensland’s settlement service provider for migrants and refugees.
Since 1998, Multicultural Australia has been welcoming refugees, people seeking asylum, international students and other new arrivals to Queensland with the goal of creating a fairer, more prosperous society for all Queenslanders. We support more than 5,000 newly arrived Queenslanders every year, including refugees, international students, people seeking asylum and migrants. We help them to settle into their new lives, build connections in their communities, find work and study opportunities, learn new skills and feel at home.
We also work with individuals, communities, business and government to help build a more welcoming Queensland through advocacy, cultural training and community events that bring people together, foster understanding and recognise the valuable contribution that new arrivals and migrants make to Queensland.
Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS) is an Aboriginal-controlled organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to live free from domestic violence, family violence and sexual assault.
After a recognised gap in access to legal and well-being support for First Nation victims and survivors, we were funded and formed. With our work, victims can seek help, be represented, and access the culturally appropriate assistance needed.
From our offices, we outreach to over 85 communities throughout Queensland. Our services include culturally appropriate legal services, case management of non-legal needs, community education and community legal education sessions.
Women's Health and Equality Queensland are leaders in women's health, gender equity and the primary prevention of violence in Queensland. We provide counselling, therapeutic groups and health services for women and gender-diverse people with experiences of violence, as well as professional education, community programs and structural reform.
Women’s Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ) is a feminist
organisation that has been developed and operated by women for women since
1984. We provide free legal and social work help to Queensland women who
have experienced domestic violence. Our priority is helping women who are
experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, or disadvantage. It is our
mission is to provide accessible legal and social justice for a safer future
for women and children.
We are committed to a society in which every woman:
- can live free from violence and discrimination
- can tell her story, have it heard and respected,
without judgement
- receives a just and equitable outcome from legal
and social systems.
WLSQ is where it is today with the contribution
of the many staff, management committee members, volunteers, and supporters.
WLSQ employs over 70 staff (both full and part-time), corporate supporters, and
over 125 volunteers, who are a core part of our service delivery and graciously
give their time and expertise each month to help vulnerable women impacted by
domestic violence.
