Eligibility

An applicant must be a registered trainee of the RCPA or ACD, or a Fellow of the RCPA or ACD of fewer than 10 years.  Previous winners are ineligible to apply.

Prize

The successful recipient receives AUD $1,000 and a commemorative plaque.

Selection Criteria

All abstract submissions are assessed on:

• The clinicopathological relevance of the topic/presentation
• The contribution this case makes to existing knowledge  
• Educational and interest value of the case

The award review panel will select cases from submissions that will progress to presentation at the ANZVS Specialist Pathologist Workshop.

Selection Process

If you are selected to make an oral presentation, prepare your case in consultation with your Supervisor. Supervisors are encouraged to attend the session to support their trainee and provide expert comment.

The oral presentations will be assessed by a judging panel as determined by ANZVS.

On the day of the oral presentation:

1. Presenter gives a presentation of up to 20 minutes (ideally 15mins plus 5mins Q&A).
2. Following a presentation, the session chair will open the floor to the judging panel and audience to ask questions regarding the facts of the case, to be answered by the trainee.
3. The judging panel will assess each presentation on the:

• quality of presentation
  
• educational value of the case
  
• discussion of the literature and knowledge displayed
  
• response to questions
  

ANZVS reserves the right not to award the Prize if no presentation meets a sufficient standard.

Attendance at Pathology Workshop

Registration fees will be waived for successful applicants. Travel costs are to be covered by the applicant.

Authors must submit a separate abstract for each presentation put forward for consideration

• Submission of Abstracts is open 1 March 2024 to 27 September 2024
• Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words
• Receipt of your abstract will be acknowledged as soon as it has been received and checked
• All submitted abstracts will be considered and the successful applicants notified by 11 October 2024
• If the presentation includes clinical photos, presenters must ensure they have written consent from the patient

ABSTRACT FORMAT

Title

• Title should be a maximum of 150 characters in length.
• Title should be descriptive, clearly identifying the key theme of the presentation
• Do not use abbreviations in the title

Author/s

• Name
• Include professional titles (e.g. Dr, Prof) and qualifications (e.g. MBBS, FRCPA)
• Affiliation (place of work)

Text

• Abstracts should be a maximum of 250 words
  
• Use standard abbreviations only
