STATEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY
After graduating MBBS in 1975 and completing specialist training in General Surgery (FRACS) in 1983, Professor Jones obtained further specialist training in the field of colon and rectal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 1983 to 1985 which culminated in a return as an Associate Staff Surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic in 1986-1987. He was appointed a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 1987 and became Head of the Unit in 1999. He has maintained a particular interest in the surgical management of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anorectal disorders and colonoscopy. His professional executive activities include membership of the Executive of the Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons from 1989 to 2001, the last two years of which he was the Chairman. He was a member of the Council of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australasia from 2001-2006, the last two years of which he served as President of the Society. Professor Jones has maintained an active role in the specialist training in colon and rectal surgery was a member of the Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery from 1993 to 2011.
