Field Tours

The 23rd Australasian Weeds Conference Field Tours will take place right after the scientific program on Thursday, 29 August, 2024. Departing and returning from the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, these tours promise a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Choose your path:

# 4: Central Tour: Central Urban Wilderness


Each Field Tour ticket costs $99.00 per person and is not included in registration fees. To purchase tickets, select your chosen tour as an add on during registration. Already registered? #1 Southern Tour - Weeds & Seeds in the South

Meet with local Landcare and community groups working within the Logan and Bremmer valleys and discuss invasive species management from a community perspective.  Visit vegetable and cattle operations within the area talking to landholders managing weeds within an agricultural setting, including a FarmDroid robotic seeding & weeding demonstration. The tour travels through the beautiful Scenic Rim region of Southeast Queensland.

#2 Eastern Tour - East bound Island Explorers

Take a trip to the islands. Visit Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) off the coast of Brisbane. Visit with the island custodians and traditional owners to learn what they are doing to manage the diverse biodiversity on the island and assist the island recover from years of mining activity and intense tourism.

#3 Western Tour - Westward Valley Adventures

Visit the salad bowl of Queensland, the Lockyer Valley. The trip will showcase several farming enterprises that manage weeds in crops, SmartFarming precision sprayers and weeders, as well as efforts being made to restore the riparian areas within the valley to build resilience to flooding and soil loss associated with increasing severe weather events. The tour travels through the beautiful Little Liverpool and Main ranges.

#4 Central Tour - Central Urban Wilderness

Visit the Port of Brisbane to see firsthand the biosecurity operation helping to prevent the incursion of new threats to Australia through the port, an old industrial site that has been rehabilitated into a thriving saltmarsh wetland and a visit to the Mt Coot-tha Reserve & Botanic Gardens.  The tour will focus on the management of natural areas in a more urban setting and the impacts of invasive species on isolated reserves.
