Field Trips


Sugar Cubed will feature three exciting field trips to kick off the meeting on day 1. You can select your preferred field trip in your registration form. 

Please note the field trips are assigned on a first come first served basis, all efforts will be made to ensure you are allocated your first choice however this is not guaranteed.

Field Trip 1 

Visit the bulk Sugar Terminal at Mackay harbour, followed by a visit to the sugar refinery at Racecourse mill.

You'll then get the latest update on the Mackay Renewable Biocommodities Pilot Plant (MRBPP) for the development of processing technologies for the manufacture of biofuels and bioproducts.


PPE Required: enclosed shoes, long sleeves, long pants. Hard hats, safety glasses and hand protection will be provided where required. 


Field Trip 2 

Visit the Sarina distillery at the Plane Creek sugar mill to see how 60 million litres of ethanol are made.

Then get a better understanding of how biodunder is manufactured.

The trip will finish with a tour of the Sarina Sugar Shed.


PPE Required: enclosed shoes, long sleeves, long pants. Hard hats will be provided where required. 


Field Trip 3

Join Mackay Area Productivity Services and get acquainted with the best management practices used in Mackay.

The tour will then head out to the paddock to see how Mackay growers are making use of recycled water through the use of reuse dams.


PPE Required: enclosed shoes, long sleeves, long pants, sun hat.
