Dave Perkins came to Mackay in 1989 to take on the role of General Manager at the local commercial radio station, 4MK and since then has been heavily involved in his community in a variety of roles, although his links with media, particularly radio, go back more than 50 years that started in Western Australia in management and on air roles in Perth and regional centres.

In 1982, Dave came to Queensland, taking on roles in management and on air at 4TO Townsville before coming to Mackay in 1989, leaving in 1992 to start what would become one of the largest full service advertising agencies in regional Qld with clients as far afield as PNG and New Zealand. One of those clients was the then Mackay Sugar Co-op Assoc Ltd and his company, DPA completed a number of projects from media advertising and training videos, to a major project that chronicled the birth of Australia's first white sugar refinery  at Racecourse Mill and the commissioning of MRS Pioneer, a purpose built "bulk-in bulk-out" ship to transport the white sugar internationally.

In 2004, his community elected him to local government and he was successful in another two elections before not standing in 2016  so he could return full time to commercial radio and in 2020, he accepted an on air/production role with the ABC in Mackay.

Dave has always been involved in the greater Mackay community, sitting on a wide number of boards from tourism in Mackay/Isaac/Whitsundays to sporting and other institutions. He is currently serving his 5th term as President of his local Rotary club and lives with his wife and 3 grown children and their families in Mackay - and is a keen hacker/golfer.
