WELCOME
The Pest Animal and Weed Symposium 2025 (PAWS 2025) presented by Invasive Species Queensland (ISQ), and hosted by Gladstone Area Water Board, will be held on 19-22 May 2025 at Gladstone.
The enjoyable and informative PAWS 2023 in Dalby was a reunion of sorts and we’re excited to bring the extended pest animal and weed family back together again! It’ll be a great opportunity to tell stories, bring new ideas, showcase results and form networks while also marking the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Weed Society of Queensland – ISQ’s precursor organisation.
Strategies for pest success is the 2025 symposium theme, with a focus on planning, coordination and collaboration to achieve long term successes in pest animal and weed management. The subthemes of ‘Early invasion curve prevention and eradication’ and ‘Managing pests, protecting assets’ highlight the benefits of targeted actions at varying stages within the invasion curve timeline. Whereas the other subthemes ‘Building resilience through community empowerment’ and ‘Harnessing research and technology’ reflect the critical importance of community and science contributions to successful pest management.
The Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre offers ample space for a range of indoor and outdoor presentations with a strong emphasis on the latest research and technology while also providing examples of on ground success. Whether your focus is pest animals, weeds or complementary cutting-edge technologies, there’ll be something for all.
Gladstone’s coastal charm, major industries, strong farming communities, national parks and wilderness will also provide the basis for a range of field tour options – a great opportunity for delegates to learn from the region’s pest animal and weed challenges.
