DAME Lite - Melbourne | Registration Form
This 5-day course is based on the competencies set out by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) for training of Designated Aviation Medical Examiners. It is a highly interactive course, with only 24 participants, and employs adult learning principles. It includes a visit day which provides practical exposure to professional aviation workplaces (including flight simulators and air traffic control facilities).
The teaching will be led by:
Dr David Powell, former Medical Advisor to International Air Transport Association (IATA). David is a specialist in aviation and occupational medicine, taught on the University of Otago’s aviation medicine programme for 20 years, and has been Chief Medical Officer at Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia. He holds commercial pilot licences on aeroplanes and helicopters.
Dr Jeremy Robertson, who has the rare combined roles of Qantas Pilot, experienced DAME and Medical Officer at Qantas Airways.
The 5-day course is an abbreviated version of the full ASAM 8-day DAME course which is run annually (usually in July in Brisbane).
The 5-day course does not include:
- The day of GA experience. You can gain this experience yourself (if you do not already have it) by arranging a Trainee Instructional Flight (TIF) with a flying school near you.
- The CASA procedural and administrative training. Those wishing to become certified DAME's will need to arrange to attend the next CASA course arranged for DAMEs.
- The competency assessment.
Apart from those three components the course meets the prerequisites for achieving certification as Designated Aviation Medical Examiners (DAME) in Australia.
The programme is full-time for five days and will require your full attention. The program will run from 0830 Saturday to the end of the day on Wednesday. A reference textbook and required teaching materials will be supplied.
In case of oversubscription, priority will be given to those intending to work as a DAME in areas where there is a shortage.
Competency assessment and CASA training
Please note that participants wishing to become certified Designated Aviation Medical Examiners (DAMEs) are strongly encouraged to attend the final two days of the Full DAME Course in Brisbane this July (Fri 31st July and Sat 1st August), during which the final two required components will be delivered:
- The CASA procedural and administrative training
- The competency assessment.
The July course will have a separate registration process, with details provided to participants upon completion of the course.
