Dr Wendy Darling is the Acting Executive Director Covert Collections and Insights at the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission. Dr Darling commenced at the ACIC in July 2022.
Covert Collections and Insights (CCI) Division is part of the ACIC Intelligence Operations Group. The Covert Collections and Insights Division is comprised of three branches, Collections Operations, Data Analytics and Intelligence Insights with a focus on delivering impact and insights on the most sophisticated serious and organised crime targets.
CCI Division collects criminal intelligence through covert methodologies, bulk data collection and exploitation, liaison with partners, and coordinates the assessment and dissemination of quality intelligence to deliver impact though insights. While we can, and do, collect evidence when necessary, our focus on criminal intelligence to paint the national and international TSOC picture sets us apart from, and complements, NIC and Law enforcement partners.
Prior to joining the ACIC, Dr Darling worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) across policy, security and intelligence issues. During her 17 years with DFAT, she enjoyed a number of overseas postings and deployments to locations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Prior to her diplomatic career, Dr Darling worked in the private sector in Japan and was a university lecturer in Australia. Other than English, Dr Darling speaks rusty Japanese and Indonesian.
