Marcus currently works as a Senior Forensic Chemist within the Forensic Chemistry section of Forensic Science Queensland (FSQ). He has been at FSQ since 2004 initially working within the Illicit Drug group before moving to the Clandestine Laboratory group in 2007. Prior to taking up his position he has completed a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree with a double major in Chemistry and Forensic Science; and a Bachelor of Science Degree. While employed at FSQ Marcus completed a Master of Science in Forensic Chemistry. He has assisted with the analysis and/or on-site investigation of clandestine laboratory scenes for the Queensland police service as well as being involved in Australian Federal Police/Border Force operations. He has presented at both domestic and international clandestine laboratory seminars and training courses. He was the recipient of the Clandestine Laboratory Investigating Chemists (CLIC) Association Emerging Chemist Investigator Award in 2013 for his journal paper: A Comparative Analysis of the Synthesis of 4-Methoxyphenyl-2-propanone (PMP2P) via the Wacker Oxidation of Estragole (4-Allylanisole) in Different Solvent Systems.
