Nick Gothard (Keynote Speaker) - Senior Leader - Defence and Aerospace Sector

Nick Gothard is an experienced leader with 20 years’ experience working Defence and Aerospace sector. This has included leadership roles in procurement, contracting, supply chain, business operations, strategy and transformation.

Nick has a passion for driving sustainable outcomes through business operations, and during his career in procurement, he has been instrumental in introducing a range of social procurement initiatives focused on increasing the participation of Small-to-Medium Enterprises and Indigenous businesses in supply chains.

In his current role, Nick supports the execution of a large and diverse aerospace services business in the Asia-Pacific region.

He holds Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business (Management) degrees from the University of Queensland.

Chris Newman

Chris founded ArcBlue in 2013 alongside Co-Managing Director Dan Fielding. ArcBlue is now one of the region’s leading Procurement and Supply Chain consultancies with offices and over 150 team members across Asia-Pacific. In 2021, ArcBlue was acquired by global consulting leader Bain and Company to lead growth in procurement and supply chain programs across the region. One of ArcBlue’s key areas of expertise and experience is social and sustainable procurement, where Chris has been a leader over the last decade. Chris is dedicated to the idea that we can drive positive change through our strategic commitment to procurement and supply chain. 

Amy Crisafulli 

Amy is a seasoned professional with 17 years of experience in procurement and supply chains. She has a strong interest in social and sustainable procurement and is passionate about fostering collaboration with Suppliers to drive change and long-term success. Amy leverages her extensive expertise to support clients implement innovative and responsible procurement practices.

Cara Westerman

Cara Westerman brings 20 years of diverse experience across government, private, and non-profit sectors. A dynamic systems thinker and passionate change-agent, she excels at leading teams to achieve sustainable outcomes. Her commitment to sustainability was ignited early in her career, managing cumulative impact and sustainability assessments for major infrastructure projects like Cross River Rail. As an urban planner, Cara has shaped large-scale city strategies in Australia and the Middle East and led operational readiness and investment strategies for organisations such as Dubai Airport. At Business Chamber Queensland, she leverages her multidisciplinary expertise to empower businesses, fostering capacity and confidence for meaningful action.

Peter Lacey 

Peter is responsible for leading and managing the Queensland Government's centrally enabled, whole-of-government procurement policy function, focusing on frameworks, strategy, industry engagement, capability, and data and analytics. He is also the Queensland Government’s Senior Executive responsible for collaboration on the Elimination of Modern Slavery and co-led the Queensland Government’s COVID-19 Procurement Response.

Peter chairs the Strategic Procurement Special Interest Group for all Australasian Governments.

He is an experienced Queensland public servant and procurement professional, with over 30 years’ experience in change and category management.  He has worked for range of Queensland Government agencies, including Health, Communities, and Energy and Public Works.  He has also worked for the Commonwealth and in the not-for-profit sector.  Peter is published in the fields of procurement risk management and strategic thinking.

Nicole Garofano

Nicole’s journey has revealed her life purpose – creating change in how we generate and manage resources globally, with a focus on plastic. She spent eight years living and working in a small island developing state (SIDS) (Barbados). Another seven researching SIDS followed this globally, including four specifically focused on the plastic food and beverage packaging value chain as part of her PhD. Her passion is to contribute to change in the global packaging space to deliver equitable consumption and post-consumption experiences across all situations - SIDS, developing countries, remote areas in developed countries, and cities - so that all packaging is designed for reductions in food waste and, post-consumption, can be considered a resource rather than a waste.

As an Associate with the Australian Institute of Packaging, Nicole represents the AIP on the ANZPAC Plastics Pact Collective Action Group. In her role at Planet Ark, she leads the ongoing strategic development of the Australian Circular Economy Hub (ACE Hub), which has become Australia's national reference platform for circular economy knowledge and collaboration.

Gail Hamilton

Gail Hamilton has had a diverse career as a wastewater operations engineer, environmental consultant, climate advocate and community educator.  She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Resource Economics.  Gail was the waste and sustainable procurement program manager with the Department of Defence, working across their extensive operations to reduce their environmental footprint.   Now, as an Assistant Director with the Commonwealth Sustainable Procurement Advocacy and Resource Centre (C-SPARC), Gail provides support and advice to Australian government agencies on embedding environmental sustainability into procurement.  CSPARC has recently developed the Environmentally Sustainable Procurement Policy to drive better practices. 

Pieter Nagel 

Pieter is a highly qualified Supply Chain Management professional offering more than 30 years of commercial, industrial, and academic experience within diverse industries, governments, and education sectors. He has extensive international experience, particularly in Asia, Europe, South Africa, and Australia. Dr Nagel has taught extensively on a tertiary level and senior executive programs worldwide. He has expertise in technology-related supply chain management transitions, aligning corporate strategy with the associated enabling aspects of the supply chain. His focus is on Supply Chain Ecosystems as these underly business practices and contemporary business models within the global business environment.

Justin Butcher

Masters educated executive with over 18 years of experience leading and developing procurement, supply and logistics in Australia’s largest mining and manufacturing companies. My current role is head of the Procurement and Supply division for Australia’s second-largest mining contractor. In terms of scope, the largest roles I've looked after have included responsibility for teams of up to 90 reports (direct, indirect), $800M+ supplier spend, $130M+ in inventory, 250,000+ stock keeping units, 2,000+ supplier base, 2x distribution centres and 6,500 freight movements per annum.
