Deep and persistent disadvantage has profound consequences for cognition. Specifically, socioeconomic disadvantage has been linked to people’s attitudes towards risk, impatience, capacity for self-control, and tendency to engage deeply with some issues, while neglecting others. How can we prevent cognition from becoming a pathway through which disadvantage becomes deep and persistent?
